Fish

People who call themselves "a vegetarian who eats fish" are ignorant.  A fish is an animal.  If you eat any part of an animal you are not vegetarian, it's simple.  Just because fish live their life in the water and are scaly instead of furry, does not mean their meat is different from any other animal.  Come on.

It has been scientifically proven that like other animals, fish too feel pain. Fish actually have a complex nervous system, when removed from their element they are not throwing themselves around because of their uncontained excitement, they are actually enduring the extreme suffering of suffocation.

Whether the fish are harvested from the sea or from fish farming, the results are the same: they are suffocated - an atrocious death and terrible suffering that no one takes into consideration.

Too often people choose to stay ignorant, while taking it upon themselves to sacrifice the lives of other animals, just because we cannot conceive how a creature so unlike ourselves could possibly experience like feelings.

Fish are well aware of what is happening to them and they do suffer.  That is the conclusion to a scientific report called Welfare Of Farmed Fish in September 1996 commissioned by the English Ministry Of Agriculture..... the scientific evidence concerning such effects makes it clear that the term stress is certainly relevant to fish and that the means by which stress effects are mediated are very similar to those in mammals. Evidence that the term pain is applicable to fish comes from anatomical, physiological and behavioral studies whose results are very similar to those of studies on birds and mammals. The fact that fish are cold blooded does not prevent them from having a pain system and, indeed, such a system is valuable in preserving life and maximizing the biological fitness of individuals. The receptor cells, neuronal pathways and specialized transmitter substances in the pain system are very similar in fish to those in mammals.

Also other animals are hurt by this cruel practice. Every year, fishers leave behind a trail of tackle victims that includes million of birds, turtles and other animals who suffer debilitating injuries or slowly starve to death after swallowing fishhooks or becoming entangled in fishing line.

Ignorance is bliss.
